Set after the Russo-Japanese War, Golden Kamuy follows Sugimoto, a battle-scarred veteran in search of hidden Ainu gold to support a fallen comrade’s widow. His quest leads him through Hokkaido, where he teams up with Asirpa, a young Ainu woman, and learns about Ainu culture, survival, and respect for nature. As they track down convicts tattooed with pieces of a treasure map, Sugimoto faces rival hunters, cultural divides, and his own haunted past, all while unraveling a complex web of greed and history entwined with Japan’s indigenous heritage.
